Rep. Darryl Owens Participates In
Kentucky Retired State Employees Panel

Rep. Darryl Owens participated in a luncheon/panel discussion with the Kentucky Retired State Employees group held at The Masonic Home in Louisville on October 10, 2007. Rep. Owens was joined by Kentucky Secretary of the Personnel Cabinet Brian Crall, Rep. Bob Deweese and retired University of Kentucky Head Basketball Coach, Joe B. Hall.

After a presentation by Secretary Crall, Rep. Owens said, "Our responsibility is to determine how to make the system sustainable and sound. What do we do to fully fund the Kentucky Retirement System when the reality is that we do not have $21 billion to put into it? We want to maintain your health benefits in a fiscally responsible manner, but we have to figure out how to meet our obligation to you and our obligation to our great state."

Rep. Owens told the group that he believes that possible solutions will be forthcoming soon when the actuarial analysis is complete and the Governor's Blue Ribbon Committee submits their report.
