Rep. Darryl Owens receives national award
for work on Labor Issues
Representative Darryl Owens has received an appreciation award from the Labor Roundtable of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators for his work on labor issues.
At its 31st annual conference in Little Rock, Arkansas (Dec. 12-16, 2007), NBCSL presented Representative Owens with a plaque that reads, in part, “in grateful recognition of your support for legislation on behalf of all working men and women.”
Representative Owens has a long history as a champion for working men and women. In the late 1980s, as a Jefferson County Commissioner, he was instrumental in securing collective bargaining rights for county employees.
His efforts on behalf of working families continued through to present day.
Last session, Representative Owens was a vocal supporter of the minimum wage increase, and an ardent opponent of proposed union-busting "right to work" legislation.
This session, Representative Owens is pushing for worker-friendly legislation to prohibit wage discrimination based on race or gender, and to improve child care options for low-income working families.
